Everyone Is Born Into This World With A Problem
- all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God –Romans 3:23. Every one has missed the mark of God’s righteous requirement, which is holiness. He is God and he has the right as our creator to tell us how to live. We haven’t measured up. We lack his righteousness. We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners. Everyone comes into the world corrupted to the core by sin. Sin has corrupted every area of our life: physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional.
- the wages of sin is death – Romans 6:23. The penalty for falling short of God’s righteous requirement is death. When Adam sinned willfully against God, he experience spiritual death (separation from God) and would experience physical death as well. Because Adam was our representative, we are born into this world spiritually dead and experience physical death as well. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth – Romans 1:18. Sin condemns us to the wrath of God.
- no one will be justified by the works of the law – Romans 3:20. This means that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. The word justify means to acquit or declare not guilty. No amount of performance on our part can achieve a righteous verdict from God. Remember, “the wages of sin is death,” not a good work.
- no one seeks after God – Romans 3:10-12. In our spiritually dead state we want nothing to do with God. We don’t have a desire for God. People maybe seeking spiritual things. They may be seeking religion. They may even be seeking their “version” of God. But they are not seeking the one true God.
This Is All Bad News.
We have fallen short of God’s requirement of holiness. The penalty for that is death in hell forever. No amount of performance on our part can achieve a righteous verdict, and we don’t even really care to know God. But…
There Is Good News!
- The Bible tells us that God did something amazing. God demonstrated his love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8. Even though our natures were corrupt, even though we wanted nothing to do with God, God the Son came and paid the penalty for our sin with his own life.
- If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved – Romans 10:9-10. Confessing that Jesus is Lord means that you are recognizing his kingship over your life. He is Lord and you are not. We must recognize his Lordship over all areas of our lives, not just the ones that we want him to have, while claiming to be our own lord in other areas. We must also believe that God raised him from the dead. To deny this is to deny hope and the Christian faith. When we confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we are justified, acquitted of our sin.
How Is This Possible?
- For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. – 2 Corinthians 5:21. God does not overlook sin. Sin must be punished since God is just, good, and righteous. A good, just, and righteous God can’t just sweep sin under the rug. So he didn’t sweep it under the rug. The wrath of God was carried out against our sin. Jesus absorbed the wrath of God against our sin in our place on the cross. His purpose in this is so that we could become the righteousness of God. Jesus gets our sin, and we get his righteousness. If we are in Christ, when God looks at us, he doesn’t see someone under his wrath and condemnation. He sees the perfect righteousness of his Son.
- if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come – 1 Corinthians 5:17. When Jesus saves us, we become a new creation. We are no longer dead in sin, but alive in Christ.
If you would like to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior we would love to help you with the steps toward that.
Perhaps you may even like to do this where you are at right now by voicing the prayer below to God. Keep in mind it is not the words of this prayer that save you. These words just help you voice to God what is in your heart.
Father,
I acknowledge that I have sinned and fallen short of your glory. I realize the penalty for my sin is death in hell forever. I admit that there is nothing I can do to save myself and I am solely at your mercy. I realize I need a savior. I confess that Jesus is my Lord and that he died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I acknowledge that Jesus took my sin upon himself, taking my punishment, the wrath and justice of God against my sin, and gives me his righteous standing before you upon faith. Amen.
If this prayer truly reflected your heart toward Jesus then you are a new creation in Christ!
What next?
- Find a Bible believing, bible teaching church, and attend faithfully.
- Join a Bible study group within that church to grow deeper in your faith.
- Follow through with Baptism. Baptism doesn’t save you. It is a declaration to the people of God of what has happened to you on the inside and that you are a new creation.
- Read your Bible. I recommend starting with 1 John, the Gospel of John, Ephesians, and Romans. Take it slow to begin with. Try a chapter per day to start off with. After reading the above books, find a bible-reading program to help you read through the whole Bible. I suggest Robert Murray McCheyne’s Bible Reading Program. It is only 4 chapters of reading per day and will probably take you less than 15 minutes to do.
- Establish a consistent quiet time. A quiet time is a time you set aside each day to read your bible and pray. (If you would like more information on how to start your own quiet time, reach out to us. We would love to assist you in this.
- Tell someone how Jesus has changed your life.
